Frequently asked questions
At Holly’s Walkies & Care, I’m all about providing the very best professional care for your pets.
I’ve put together some common questions to help you get a better understanding of my services from how to book, to what makes my care a little bit different.
What are your cancellation and refund policies?
For dog walks, pop-in visits, and pet washing services, I kindly ask for at least 2 days’ notice for any cancellations, so I have time to fill the slot. Unfortunately, cancellations made with less than 2 days’ notice are non-refundable.
For pet sitting (overnight stays) and longer pet taxi journeys, I ask for 5 days’ notice for cancellations. Cancellations made with less than 5 days' notice are also non-refundable.
I do understand that sometimes things are out of your control, and I always aim to be as flexible and understanding as possible where I can.
What are your opening hours and do you operate on bank holidays?
Holly’s Walkies operates from 8:00am to 5:00pm Monday to Friday, and 10:00am to 3:00pm on weekends (additional charges will apply). These hours include travel time to and from each appointment.
I aim to take bank holidays off; however, I’m happy to consider requests where possible, which may also incur an additional charge.
Early mornings and later evenings can be accommodated where needed, although this may not always be available on a regular basis.
If you have any special requests, please feel free to get in touch, I’d be more than happy to discuss your needs and provide a quote.
Full details of any additional charges can be found on the pricing page.
Are dogs required to be up to date on vaccinations?
Yes, for the safety and well-being of all pets in our care, all fur babies must be up to date on their vaccinations. Proof of vaccination will be required before booking.
Do you offer any discounts or packages?
Yes, I offer discounts for multiple dogs, along with package deals for block bookings. You can find more details on my pricing page.
How do payments work?
Payments are usually made via bank transfer, but cash can also be accepted in some circumstances. Payment is required at least 48 hours before your booking, invoices will be provided.
Can you help with medication requirements?
Yes, I can offer basic, non-invasive medication support, depending on your pet’s needs and after review.
What safety measures do you follow during home visits?
I will only use the areas of your home that you specify and will always leave everything as I found it. I can also help with small additional tasks such as clearing rubbish, cleaning up pet mess, and washing food and water bowls. My aim is to ensure both you and your pets feel happy, safe, and comfortable while you’re away.
What is your GDPR and privacy policy?
I respect client confidentiality and follow GDPR regulations at all times. I only request information that is necessary to keep your pet and myself safe.
Prior to your first booking, I will ask for proof of vaccinations via email or WhatsApp, as well as your veterinary practice details (name and address). This information is stored securely on my private system against your profile.
Client data is retained for up to 7 years and will be deleted sooner upon request, provided services are no longer required.
In the event of an emergency, any veterinary fees will be the responsibility of the owner, and you will be contacted immediately.
How do I book a walk or pet care with you?
Please fill out the contact form and I’ll aim to get back to you within 24 hours, this will be via email or WhatsApp.
How does your calendar and daily schedule work?
Each day is structured around bookings, so no two days are exactly the same. However, to give you a general idea, I organise my schedule to ensure the best care for every pet.
Typically, 8:00am – 12:00pm is dedicated to group or solo walks.
From 12:00pm – 2:00pm, I carry out pop-ins and visits or additional walks where needed.
Between 2:00pm – 4:00pm, I continue with pop-ins, visits, and solo walks, followed by 4:00pm – 5:00pm for last minute walks for people on a late shift.
From 5:00pm onwards is reserved for pet sitting, overnight stays, or late-evening visits.
I’m happy to accommodate earlier mornings where possible, subject to availability. Please note that time slots may vary slightly to allow for travel between appointments, and some days may also include pet washing services alongside scheduled visits.

Where does pet washing take place?
Pet washing can take place in a few different ways, depending on what works best for you and your pet. I can bring all the equipment to your home and ensure everything is left clean and just as I found it, or I can collect your dog, wash them at my premises, and return them to you. I’m also able to use suitable outdoor facilities where appropriate.
What areas do I cover?
I am based in Portchester and currently work within a 20-minute radius. I may be able to travel further afield depending on daily bookings and travel times, and additional mileage charges will apply. This excludes the pet taxi service, which is arranged separately and depends on individual requests.
How do you enter my home?
If you are not at home when your dog needs collecting, we will go through your preferred entry instructions during our meet and greet, including the location of leads, harnesses, and any other relevant items. I always treat your home with respect and ensure everything is left exactly as I found it.
Do you take on pets that are not neutered or spayed?
Yes however, they will need to be booked for solo walks to keep them as safe as possible.
